466 , .
in that district and it was claimed that the water gressure wae not great •
enough to put out the Yire. Other residents appearin to enter their pro-
tests included Dr. John McGinnis, Mr. A. J. Fromm and Mr. (ilenn Tiaer.

. r.=a
City Manager Blom reported that a etudy oY the map of the water maine that ;

almost any other part oY town, The diffioulty ie only partially with the
dietribution systear. The poor presaure is not confined to the Edgewood '
Park area. He stated that he had called the attention oY the Council last
February the neceaeity of improving tne dietribution sqstem and of getting
material. At that time he was authorized to purcnase s large quantity of
water pipe and fittings. The order wae placed but delivery hae been very
poor. Tne first delivery wae received only a few daye ago and it wae '
proved it would aid in getting veterans homee oompleted. The balanoe of
the order ie promieed for October.
The plan Yor the Edgewood Park Dietrict is to run an B" main up Alameda
from Brewster Avenue to the 12" main letting out of the reservoir. To '
make two oonnections at the weet end of the Edgewood Park area, the 4" •
main would remain and an 8" main added on the opposte eide of the etreet,
At the east end of the park area, a 10" main would be installed at Broad-
way up Arori Street to VPhipple Avenue, There is no connection on Oakdale
from Whipple Avenue to Arlington Road. It is planned to run a 6" main
through triat block and extend it up Edgewood Road. 7Phen the two conneC-
tions are made, trie eight inch at one end and the ten inch at the other
end oY the area, there will be better pressure in that distriot than in '
any otner part of the town. A loop connection will be needed between the
two linee and it is hoped tnat that can be done next year. It wae tne
belief oY tne Oitp Manager that if the pipe ie delivered in October, the
preseure will be eatis3actory by next Spring. The 8" pipe which has been
delivered nas been awarded to Redwood Terrace and it should be laid there
before the pavement is put in, At the present time, there is no 10" pipe
on nand. It was his opinion that without the 10" pipe the 8" pipe would •
, not relieve the eituation eufficiently to warrant using it in this district. '
After conaiderable discusaion as to the advisability of allocating the
present eupply of pipe to this district, Councilman Britschgi moved, sea-
onded bq Councilman Granger, that the Oity Manager be instructed to start
the plans and specifications for laying the S" and the 10!'. main so that
when the pipe arrivea work.:oan be started in the Edgewood Park District 1
immediately. Motion passed unanimously.
Qouncilman araner advised that private cars are double parking at the bue
loading zonea on Hroadway. Councilman Axnustrong queationed the legality
oY live double parking. The matter was referred to the City Manager 3or '
study.
Counoilman (iranger euggested that waen the City Manager ie diecussing the mat-
"°'' ter of pedestrian gates at Broadway with tne 3outhern Pacific the matter
of acquiring tlie rear of Hutcher'e Field for a parking area also be d1s-
cusaed, It wae the opinion of Oounoilman Armatrong that parking space
for tne commutere was a responeibility of the 9outhern Pacific.
