He also was of the opinion that a city engineer sh'ould be appointed rather than continue operating on the basis of acting �': � city engineer. � �� .a� Councilman Armstrong aeked for action to be taken at tne next meeting of the `� Council in regard to repealing emergency provisions in regard to the civil � service eystem, one being the period of.emergency employment being increased to 180 days from 90 days, and tne other the increase in ffie age of fireman and policemen from 32� to 35 yeare. He etated.he would like to see both matters restored to tne original eta,tus. City Manager Bl�m expreased the opinion that because of the amendments being effective for aix montha after � the end of the war, he believed they would automatically be cancelled on February 14. Mayor Hilton appointed a committee to meet auith Mr. Ludvrig Werder in regard to discussion of the propoaed apur track. The committee is composed of . Qouncilmen Andereon, McNulty and Granger. A Mayor Hilton advised that a meeting of the Underpass Committee would be held during the coming week, Oouncilman MeNulty queetioned purchases from Minto Motor Company in Burlingame. City B2anager Blom replied that it was necessary to purchase all Ford parts and cars from out of town because of Kendall Towne being a member of the Port Comraission, In regard to purchasing red rock from L. C. Smith in $an Mateo, he advised that the quality of red rock had been poor but he had been adviaed that one of the suppliers in the city had just opened a new � quarry. Councilman McNulty moved Claims No, 6409 to 6456 in the amount of �$8,566,21 be approved and ordered pa,id; seconded by Councilman Britechgi. Motion passed unanirgouely.
