6.1. C. - Page 21 <br /> Battalion Chiefs assigned to twenty-four (24) hour duty shifts shall be entitled to annual vacation <br /> leave as follows: <br /> Employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (4.615 hours per pay period) that yields one hundred <br /> twenty (120) hours of vacation at the end of each year of service from the first year through the <br /> fourth year of service. After completion of the fourth year of service, employees shall accrue <br /> vacation at a rate (7.385 hours per pay period) that yields one hundred ninety-two (192) hours of <br /> vacation at the end of each year through the ninth year of service. After completion of the ninth <br /> year of service, employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (8.615 hours per pay period) that <br /> yields two hundred twenty-four (224) hours of vacation per year through the fourteenth year of <br /> service. After completion of the fourteenth year of service, employees shall accrue vacation at a <br /> rate (9.692 hours per pay period) that yields two hundred fifty-two (252) hours of vacation per <br /> year through the nineteenth year of service. After completion of the nineteenth year of service, <br /> employees shall accrue vacation at a rate (10.769 hours per pay period) that yields two hundred <br /> eighty (280) hours of vacation per year. <br /> 14.16.4 Vacation leave shall not be accumulated in excess of two (2) years accrued vacation leave <br /> computed through the pay period that includes the 31st of December, except upon written <br /> authorization of the Human Resources Director. <br /> 14.16.5 Upon termination of employment an employee shall be paid cash value of his/her accrued <br /> vacation leave at the time of the termination, in accordance with the above schedule. <br /> 14.17 Illness During Vacation <br /> 14.17.1 An employee who commences a scheduled vacation period and subsequently becomes ill before <br /> his or her vacation period has been completed shall be placed on illness leave under the <br /> following conditions: <br /> 14.17.1.1 The employee otherwise qualifies for illness leave as provided by this <br /> Agreement; and, <br /> 14.17.1.2 The employee, if no longer ill, returns to duty immediately following the vacation <br /> period; and, vacation period; and, <br /> 14.17.1.3 The employee's illness is verified by a statement from an accredited medical <br /> doctor for each such day of illness leave requested. <br /> 14.17.2 When the employee's vacation leave is converted to illness leave, the appropriate vacation credit <br /> shall be restored to the employee's earned vacation balance, and a reasonable opportunity to <br /> utilize this vacation credit shall be provided within the city's existing practices in order to avoid loss <br /> of vacation credit. <br /> 14 <br />
