JULY 2011 THE BELMONT CREEK CNANNEL MAINTENANCE PROJECT— <br /> HABITAT MITICAT AND M O NIT ORINC PLAN <br /> the fall of 2011, if approval from the City of Redwood City is obtained by that time. Planting <br /> locations for container plants shall be mazked under £he instruction and supervision of the <br /> County biologist. Plantings shall be spaced in natural-looking patterns and all container <br /> plants shall be planted in accordance with the following specifications: ,. <br /> a. Plantings will be 10- to 15-feet from the Belmont Corporation Yazd fence line, <br /> b. The azeas to be planted will be initially cleazed of weedy vegetation, <br /> c. All planting holes shall be 1.5 times the diameter and twice the depth of the planYs <br /> container, and shall have vertical sides with roughened surfaces, <br /> d. The sides of the root balls shall be scarified to promote new root development, <br /> e. Plants shall be set in planting holes so that the crowns of the root balls are 0.5 to 1.0 <br /> inches above finished grade when backfilled with soil to account for soil settling, <br /> £ A tree protector tube will be installed at the base of each plant to protect the tnmk <br /> from rodent damage, <br /> g. Each plant shall be individually watered at the time of planting with sufficient water <br /> to reach the lower roots, <br /> h. To deter competition from invasive weeds, to retain moisture, and to add nutrients to <br /> the surrounding soil, each plant shall be mulched with weed-free, non-eucalyptus <br /> wood chips in a minimum 2-foot radius around the plant stem. <br /> 2. Irrigation <br /> Coast live oak trees will be irrigated for at least hvo to three years on an as-needed basis <br /> following implementation of the planting plan. Plants will be watered individually by <br /> running a hose from the Belmont Corporation Yard to the Mitigation Site. Coast live oaks aze <br /> moderately drought tolerant and aze not expected to require supplemental water once <br /> established. <br /> 3. Maiutenance <br /> The Mitigation Site will be watered, weeded, and mulched on an as-needed basis, as <br /> determined by the County biologist.
