A - v*7 <br />The campaign committees are as follows: <br />Capital Steering Committee <br />Major Gifts Committee <br />Board /Committee /Staff Gifts Committee <br />Role of Chairperson in Canital Steerina Commiteg <br />The Capital Steering Committee performs the most important role in the Campaign <br />Organization. It will be the chairperson responsibility to put together the respective <br />committees as described, to persuade committee members to accept appropriate <br />assignments, and to keep them on a steady and productive pursuit of their prospects. <br />The chairperson if possible should be capable of making a major personal gift, be active <br />in business with considerable influence and should not be hesitant to ask for large gifts. <br />In brief, the tasks of the Capital Steering Committee Chairpersons are as follows: <br />1. To put together a strong committee wiling to seek gifts from individuals, <br />companies, and foundations. <br />2. To work closely with the Campaign Manager and Board President. <br />3. To make a significant personal gift commensurate with his /her own ability. <br />4. To ask personally for certain major gifts. <br />5. To hold regular committee meetings in which members can rate and screen new <br />prospects, take on additional assignments and report on progress. <br />6. To follow up with members of the committee and make regular reports to the <br />PAL Board of Directors. <br />7. To see that all members of the committees are fully informed about the <br />Campaign and then to see that each member has made a personal commitment <br />in accordance to his /her ability. <br />8. To participate in cultivation events as needed. <br />The Campaian Timeline: Broad Outline of Activities <br />Phase One — Pre - Campaign Planning (June 2000) <br />This phase allowed the volunteer and staff leaders to seriously evaluate their <br />commitment to a campaign — as opposed to their commitment to a new building or <br />equipment — and start to develop the basics in preparation of conducting a successful <br />campaign. Included in this phase is a careful internal evaluation of needs, discussion of <br />whether or not campaign counsel is needed, and an honest appraisal as to whether the <br />organization is ready for such a major undertaking. <br />4 <br />
