q � <br />There was not a lot of supr)ort for endowment, and we believe that may be a second )hase <br />later on. There was a great deal of acceptance of the value of PAL having its own building <br />on school property, but there is a lack of awareness on how to generate major dollars from <br />a community that is largely in the process of growing; especially from dot comes and other <br />high -tech business. <br />D. Campaign Leadership and the Board of Directors. <br />Interviewees in general indicated their lack of knowledge of the Board itself, and when they <br />reviewed a list of Board Members, they felt that there should be more "civilians and <br />business men on the Board ", and that generally a Board is expected to be the driving force <br />in a major campaign — exerting influence on others as they made their leadership gifts. It <br />became readily apparent to us, as we conducted the interviews, that the present Board <br />would not be in a position, for the most part, to make major contributions and head up the <br />campaign. There of course, were two notable exceptions to that. The reason being is the <br />majority of the Board Members are also police officers, and while they are well respected <br />in the community, they would not be in a good position to chair a major campaign of this <br />effort. Interviewees felt that the Board should have a better representation of Latinos and <br />those minorities who live in the general area to be served by the new facility. <br />Climate for campaign <br />A surprisingly low number of competing campaigns were acknowledged and most talked <br />about the current robust economy. However, it was stressed that a relatively small circle <br />o` traditional leadership and financial supporters in Redwood City are being asked to <br />support every project that comes along and are stretched rather thin at this point. <br />F. Current and Foreseeable Local Economy <br />The majority of those interviewed felt that the economy has never been better and are <br />looking for large businesses to grow in many areas of the City. Those interviewed did not <br />see major changes in the economy over the next several years and indicated that now is <br />6 <br />
