H
W ]IE3
B. Challenging Factors
1. A reoccurring theme in the interviews was that the donors and the public
need to be educated about PAL before they will give. In other words, the
market needs to be prepared by a PR Program indicating all the various
projects that PAL is currently conducting.
2. Those interviewed expressed a concern regarding the location since they felt
that it may be a changing neighborhood, and that current residence may be
forced out by economics. The community needs to be reassured that the
demographics have been looked at and the location is still perceived to be
the right location.
3. Several, not a majority of the interviewees, felt the organization needs to
promote its 501(c;(3) non - profit status in a unique partnership with the Police
Department. The key is, there are two separate organizations; the PAL and
the Police Department, and they are in partnership to provide programs for
youth.
4. Most of the interviewees did not see the need for building an endowment.
Again, this is an area that needs to be well explained and a separate item
needs to be developed to promote the endowment.
5. The last challenge factor is much of the new money in the Redwood City
area is with new corporations who do not have a track record of supporting
the local community. Certainly, this will be a challenge, but not an impossible
one to develop a relationship with the proliferation of new high -tech
companies. Many of these companies, while headquartered here, do not
necessarily employ a lot of people on this site and may employ more on
other sites, and have employees who are not residence of the community.
6. While a number of individuals have been identified, the actual recruitment of
a campaign leader and a major gifts chair may be difficult.
N
