i
t
Aug
IV. Conclusions
Based on an objective evaluation of the study findings and a comparison of favorable and
chai;enging factors, American City Bureau feels that the following conclusions are valid
and are in the long -term interest of the Police Activities League of Redwood City.
1. The individuals interviewed, for the most part, agree there is a need for a PAL
facility in the Taft School area. There is general acceptance that the facility will
be built. Although, there is some question of exactly what would be included in
the facility, including, a committee needs to evaluate a type of facility and the
programs that will be operated within the facility. Generally, people did not
understand there would be programs such as after school computer training and
items of this type.
2. There were varying degrees of awareness about the project. According to the
study respondents, much of what they thought they knew about the proposed
PAL facility was based on second hand knowledge and sometimes "rumors" in
their words. The case statement needs additional work to refine not just the
need but also the actual oroject itself and the inclusion of the programs.
3. The PAL capital campaign will be one of the largest fund - raising campaigns in
Redwood City in recent years, and the majority of those interviewed felt that it
must be conducted in a timely manner and not in a prolonged fashion. They
were critical of a number of other campaigns that took as long as five years to
complete.
10
