8.A. - Page 3 ■ "Remnant" is a collection of small fragments of land throughout the city. There are a total of twenty-eight remnant parcels that vary in size from 19 square feet to 2,500 square feet. In some cases, they function as drainage ditches for a group of homes or along a roadway. ■"Other" encompasses a variety of current uses that are not otherwise noted, such as property used for an electric transmission line, a pedestrian alley, or pedestrian bridges. Land Adjacency Staff searched the County assessor land registry for property within the city limits and the sphere of influence owned by other public agencies or districts. There are 339 parcels throughout the city that meet this description; the breakdown is as follows: ■ Thirty-six federally-owned parcels ■ Ninety-three state-owned parcels ■ Fifty county-owned parcels ■ Twelve transit district-owned parcels (Samtrans or Caltrans) ■ One hundred five water district-owned parcels ■ Thirty-nine school district-owned parcels ■ One fire district-owned parcel ■ Three other government-owned parcels The City Owned Property Inventory does not include these parcels. Land Disposition Recommendations Recommendations for disposition were based on the current inventory of city-owned properties and the vision for the City as described in the General Plan and other adopted documents. Of the 247 city-owned parcels, approximately 195 parcels were identified as property that the City should hold in order to suitably operate city facilities, infrastructure systems, open space, and recreation. This group of property is the Public Facility category and staff does not recommend disposal of this land at this time. Nearly 8% of the 247 properties are remnant parcels; awkward, undevelopable fragments of land from subdivided parcels over time.
