Garfield 6.1.E. - Page 19 In its first year as part of the community school initiative, Garfield had 55%of its students engaged in at least one program. As Exhibit 7a shows, extended learning programs reached 42% of Garfield students, with an average of 55 days of participation. Extended learning participants included 81% English learners and 80%FRPL participants. Family engagement programs reached approximately 15% of students, with school-home communication opportunities, such as parent-teacher conferences and orientation events,having the highest participation rate at 10%. Parent education programs had the highest average days of participation at 10. Students whose parents accessed family engagement programs were more likely to receive FRPL and to be male compared to students in other strategy areas. However, programs in the support strategy area,which served 10% of students, reached more females than males but had similar rates of FRPL participation. Students with no program participation had lower 2009-10 CST proficiency rates compared to participants but were similar in other characteristics.
