6.4.A. - Page 3 <br /> ATTACHMENT1 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. <br /> ORDINANCE AMENDING THE TITLE OF CHAPTER 33A AND <br /> ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 33A OF THE REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL <br /> CODE RELATING TO SPECIAL EVENTS, BLOCK PARTIES AND <br /> OTHER TEMPORARY USES <br /> WHEREAS, Article 1 of Chapter 33A had not been updated for many years; and <br /> WHEREAS, more detailed provisions in the municipal code relating to special <br /> events, temporary uses and block parties will better inform applicants and interested <br /> parties; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the residents of the City that provisions be <br /> adopted to prevent special events and temporary uses from adversely affecting the <br /> public health, safety and welfare; and <br /> WHEREAS, safeguards are necessary to ensure that special events and temporary <br /> uses will be compatible with surrounding land uses to protect the rights of adjacent <br /> residences and landowners, and to minimize any adverse effects on surrounding <br /> properties and the environment. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> SECTION 1. The title to Chapter 33A is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> CHAPTER 33A <br /> SPECIAL EVENTS, BLOCK PARTIES AND OTHER TEMPORARY USES <br /> SECTION 2. Article 1 of Chapter 33A is hereby repealed in its entirety and a <br /> new Article 1 is hereby adopted to read as follows: <br /> ARTICLE 1 BLOCK PARTIES, SPECIAL EVENTS AND TEMPORARY USE PERMITS <br /> Sec. 33A.1. PURPOSE <br /> The purpose of this Chapter is to regulate special events and other land use activities of <br /> a temporary nature that may adversely affect the public health, safety, and welfare. The <br /> intent is to ensure that these events and uses will be compatible with surrounding land <br /> uses, to protect the rights of adjacent residences and landowners, and to minimize any <br /> adverse effects on surrounding properties and the environment. <br /> Sec. 33A.2. DEFINITIONS: <br /> For the purposes of this Article, the following words shall be defined as follows: <br /> BLOCK PARTY: An organized social gathering of neighbors, on a residential or <br /> commercial street or area requiring the closure of a street, or a portion thereof, to <br /> vehicular traffic and the use of the street for the event. <br /> ATTY/ORD.380/TEMPORARY USE PERMIT <br /> REV: 10-17-12 JS Page 1 of 8 <br />
