The original administrative authorization of $60,000 for Hanson Bridgett's current work will
be exhausted sometime in late February. Therefore, in order to continue retention of their
services for the next set of water supply planning tasks, a new agreement authorized by
the City Council is required. The term of the agreement is one year, with the City Manager
able to extend the agreement for up to four one-year periods, based on needs and the
City's satisfaction with services rendered. The annual not-to-exceed budget for as-r.~irected
services is $80,000.00. The proposed agreement is attached.

Alternative
The Council could direct the City Attorney to find alternative means to carry out the legal
work anticipated.

Fiscal Impact
Funds for special counsel services are included in the approved Water Enterprise Fund
Capital Improvement Program budget for Fiscal year 2003/04. Depending on the assigned
tasks, invoices may be paid from the Long-Term Water Supply Planning or the Recycled
Water Project accounts. Authorized extensions will be dependent on appropriation of
funds by the City Council via the annual budget process.

Director, Public Works Services City Manager
Attachment

Agreement
