Moreover, the relationships and trust <br /> developed between the officers and students extends far beyond the campus and out <br /> into the community, increasing the Department's ability to serve the needs of the <br /> citizens of Redwood City. The officers are able to establish relationships with parents <br /> through attendance at after school functions and home visits, as well as earn the trust of <br /> the staff with whom they continually interact. Were the program discontinued, the <br /> police department would be unable to provide this unique service through other <br /> channels.
