1.16 SAFETY <br /> A. Contractor, before beginning construction, is to provide, maintain and remove upon completion <br /> of work all barricades around openings and excavations, fences around areas and other <br /> temporary construction, warning signals, signs, and flagmen as required to direct traffic through <br /> the work area and or to redirect traffic to detours. <br /> B. The temporary work shall conform to ali requirements of State and Local Authorities, and of the <br /> Underwriters in regard to operation, safety, and fire hazards. The Contractor shall furnish and <br /> complete ali items necessary for such construction and for conformity with such requirements <br /> whether or not called for under the separate divisions of these specifications. <br /> C. Contractor agrees that he will assume sole and complete responsibility for job site conditions <br /> during the course of construction of this project, including safety of all persons and property;that <br /> this requirement shall apply continuously and not be limited to normal working hours. <br /> 1.17 PROGRESS CLEANING <br /> A. Contractor shall perform periodic cleaning to ensure that any streets and other City and public <br /> properties are maintained free from accumulation of waste materiais, dust, mud, and debris. <br /> B. Where required, Contractor shall wet down surfaces to lay dust and prevent the blowing of dust <br /> to nearby residences or public properties. <br /> C. Contractor shall keep all paved roads clean and free of dust, mud, and debris resulting from <br /> Contractor's operations. Daily cleanup throughout the job will be necessary as Contractor <br /> progresses with its Work, but extra attention to cleanup shall be made prior to weekends and <br /> holidays. Without limiting the foregoing, Contractor shall remove trench spoil along traveled <br /> ways daily; grade and vacuum broom surfaces initially where applicable and later water flush <br /> with high-pressure sprays, being careful to avoid downstream contamination. <br /> D. All dust, mud, spoils, and construction debris shall be removed daily from all roadways, ditches, <br /> shoulders, and private property (fills or spoils placed on private property at private property <br /> owner's written request excepted). <br /> E. Disposal of Materials: <br /> 1. As part of the scope of Work included within the Contract Sum, Contractor shall be fully <br /> responsible for disposing of all construction debris, dirt and spoils resulting from the Work. <br /> 2. All waste materials, debris, dirt and rubbish shall be disposed of at sites to be chosen by <br /> Contractor in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. <br /> 3. Contractor is cautioned that the City and cities within the City have regulations governing the <br /> disposal of rubble, broken pavement, and similar materials. <br /> 4. Contractor shall become familiarized with the requirements of the agency having jurisdiction <br /> over any contemplated disposal site and shall comply with all such requirements. <br /> 5. Contractor will estimate and report to the City, an estimate of quantities (e.g. tonnage) of <br /> waste materials disposed of for compliance with AB75. Reporting requirements include the <br /> nature of materials, destination, volume and tonnage. <br /> F. All excess soil from performance of Work shall be disposed at sites to be chosen by Contractor <br /> in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. If Contractor elects to <br /> dispose of soil on any private property, prior to any dumping, a letter allowing such dumping <br /> shall be obtained from the property owner and presented to City. Contractor is advised that the <br /> property owner is required to obtain a fill permit from the applicable government agency(ies). In <br /> addition, placement of fill in wetland areas is subject to permit procedures of the US Army Corps <br /> SPECIAL CONDITIONS 00800-4 <br /> EAST BAYSHRORE ROAD STREET LIGHTING PROJECT <br />
