4.16 TRANSPORTATION
The following discussion is based on a traffic impact study prepared by TJKM Transportation
Consultants in March 2012. A copy of this report is located in Appendix G of this document.
4.16.1 Setting
4.16.1.1 Roadway Network
Local access to the project site is provided by El Camino Real(State Route 82), Woodside Road,
Oakwood Drive, and Dumbarton Avenue as described below.
El Camino Real is six lanes (three lanes in each direction) and is a major north/south transportation
corridor through the City. El Camino Real connects to Woodside Road(State Route 84)
approximately six-tenths of a mile north of the project site. El Camino Real provides direct access to
the proj ect site.
Woodside Road is a four-lane (two lanes in each direction), east-west roadway that connects to
Highway 101 to the east and Highway 280 to the west. Woodside Road provides access from these
highways to the project site via El Camino Real.
Oakwood Drive is a two-lane, east-west residential street that intersects with El Camino Real and
provides direct access to the project site. Oakwood Drive becomes Dumbarton Avenue as it crosses
over El Camino Real.
Dumbarton Avenue is a two-lane, east-west roadway that provides access to El Camino Real for the
unincorporated area of San Mateo County located between El Camino Real and the Caltrain right-of-
way.
4.16.1.2 Existing Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities
Pedestrian Facilities
There are no sidewalks along the El Camino Real and Oakwood Avenue frontages of the project site.
Pedestrian facilities in the project area consist of sidewalks along both sides El Camino Real(except
in front of the project site) and signalized crosswalks on the west, north, and east sides of the El
Camino ReaUOakwood Avenue/Dumbarton Avenue intersection. There is no crosswalk on the south
side of this intersection. Sidewalks on Oakwood Avenue are intermittent through the residential
area. The existing sidewalks in the project area are lacking connectivity and do not provide
pedestrians with full access to all surrounding land uses in the area.
Bicycle Facilities
There are currently no designated bicycle lanes or routes on El Camino Real in the vicinity of the
project site. According to the Redwood City General Plan, El Camino Real has been identified as a
future bicycle route.
Kensington Assisted Living Facility Project 79 Initial Study
Redwood City Apri12013
