Councilman Weymouth warned of costs involved <br />in such a policy. Auditor-Acoountant state& approxi mately 5 employees retired this <br />past Cite years would cost City some $600 per year under such a plan proposed for <br />continuing medical, and predicted that, ove7 a 10 year period, some 50 employees would <br />retire and cost would approximate 06000 per year. Councilman Bury re-emphasized his <br />concern for possible eligibility of those already retired for re-entry into group <br />medical plan with some contribution on part of the City (Memo 1/25/166) <br />Councilman Gran7er, representing Council, discussed his report and recommendation concerning <br />Union Cemetery maintenance after meet!nS held with Staff and representative from S',ky- <br />!aT,,:n Memorial Gardens on the Zrounds to note its deplorable state. he stated Park <br />Superintendent had been asked vo estiniate cost or a general clean-up of cemetery and <br />advises labor cost of approximately ?3700 could accomplish a clean-up campainn, but <br />suggested this be done durinC easter vacation period when seasonal student help could <br />be utilized for approximately half or cost estimated. He further stated representative <br />from Skylawn indicated that if City performs general clean-up, his or7anization would <br />comply with the terms of the aareement providing for maintenance. <br />Councilman Granger stated he recommen4ed that general clean-up be approved and that <br />various community agencies and organizations also be asked for their assistance. Dio- <br />cusalon held on possible finances for clean-up praCram with recommendation being made <br />by City Manager that funds be used from Park Department budget as far as possible and <br />supplemental funds be appropriated if necessary. <br />Councilman Royer moved to accept report and proceed on clean-up program for Cemetery <br />as recommended by City Manager, seconded by Councilman Bury and carried (MINUTE ORD7R <br />466-27) <br />Request of Fire Chief for permission to purchase item of fire equipment without formal <br />bidding presented for consideration. Staff reported purchase by informal bids had <br />been requested for a diesel engine and automatic transmission to replace the 17 year <br />old motor in Aerial Truck ., 11. Fire Chief reported due to unique nature of replace- <br />ment, he has examined available engines and received informal bids which include <br />installation, furnishing of engine, automatic transmission, and all appurtenaces, and <br />recommends one costing $7,914a1 to be paid from Equipment Replacement Funds. Council- <br />man Bury questioned fair estimate of cost and comparative quotations. <br />Chief Lodi stated he had been workinC on this proposed purchase <br />for full year and felt assured he had received ail possible <br />estimates on costs, and felt recommendation for acceptance of one <br />best suited was justified. <br />Councilman Royer moved to waive formal bidding procedures on motor and accessories <br />foo Aerial Truck #11, and authorize City Manager to make purchase an requested, seconded <br />by Councilman Petersen and carried on roll call vote (MTYUTE ORDSR A66-28) <br />
