be some money available. She said Mr. Church recommended contacting
Gary Ward of Safeway because he might be interested in contributing for art
work at Sequoia Station. The Commissioners asked to have a letter sent to
Mr. Ward indicating the Commission's interest in actively pursuing art for
Sequoia Station. Copies of the letter will be sent to Dave Irmer, Mike Church
and Charles Jany. Commissioner Fischer will follow up with a phone call to
Mr. Ward after the letter is sent.
ITEM 8 -ART CENTER REPORT
Commissioner Moran reported that she and Commissioner Distefano
attended the Open House of the gallery at the Art Center. Over 1,500 people
attended and it was a very successful event. The gallery is now open to the
public from 12:OOpm-6:OOpm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
ITEM 9 - CITY HALL ART WORK
Chairperson Filippi inquired about sending a letter of intent to have the
Cultural Commission included in the City Hall building process.
Superintendent Hartman announced that on Saturday, March 26,
presentations will be made by five architects on the City Hall complex. The
Commissioners discussed the fact that one of their duties is to make
recommendations to Council regarding the "aesthetics of the design and site
development of any City building" and they were disappointed that they had
not been included in the City Hall process. Commissioners Piulle and Moran
will attend the March 26 meeting and bring back information to the
Commission.
M/S Fischer/Redington: To send a letter stating that the Cultural
Commissioners understand their job description
to be such and that they have not been included
in the loop to help made decisions regarding City
buildings, and that we really want to be included
in the City Hall process. Letter to be sent to Mayor,
City Manager, Community Development Director,
and Planning Department.
Motion passed.
Commissioner Redington agreed to contact new Community Development
Director Deborah Nelson and speak to her about the Cultural Commission.
It was suggested that perhaps Ms. Nelson be invited to a Commission
meeting so the Commissioners could meet her.
