ITEM 10-UPDATE ON EXISTING PROGRAMS .
-Fox Programs
Superintendent Hartman said she spoke with Corinne Centeno who
indicated that the staff report was approved by City Council on February 28
and the Fox Theater sub-committee report will be presented at the March 14
City Council meeting. She suggested that if the Commissioners had any
questions or concerns regarding the funding of the $30,000 that they should
contact members of the City Council.
-Art Contest
Supervisor Hannon reported that all the contest forms have been delivered
to the schools and she has begun receiving entries from students. She asked
the Commissioners to contact her if they were interested in helping with the
preliminary judging.
Supervisor Hannon said she has found a "flexible banner" which could be
purchased for use at our concerts and other events at a cost of $295.00. The
banner is 2 feet wide by 10 feet long. Commissioner Piulle suggested using
the John Raitt Concert money to purchase the banner. This matter will be
placed on the April agenda.
MATTERS OF COMMISSION INTEREST
-Commissioner Moran said the Lathrop House will hold a lunch honoring
their volunteers on March 4. She said she attended the Citizen of the Year
Dinner on February 27.
-Commissioner Ball attended the Joe Marchi American Musical series at the
Library and said she really enjoyed it. She said she would really like to see the
Commission plan a joint event with Joe Marchi and she agreed to contact Mr.
Marchi regarding this suggestion. This matter will be placed on the April
agenda.
-Commissioner Fischer said she is looking forward to the performing arts
presentation at Kennedy Middle School on March 4.
-Commissioner Piulle thanked the Commissioners for coming to the Arts
Star Awards luncheon. She said she spoke with a member of the Peninsula
Community Foundation regarding their grant process and the possibility of
the Commission obtaining a grant. She mentioned the piece of Chinese art
donated by Gladys Woodhams has been moved to a permanent location at
Canada College. She asked if the Cultural Commission could recommend to
the Planning Commission that murals in Redwood City must have subdued
colors. This matter will be placed on the April agenda.
