Commissioner Redington volunteered to attend. A letter signed by each of <br /> the Commissioners will be presented to the winners at the art show. <br /> Commissioner Piulle reported that the cost of new badges will range between <br /> $8.50-$14.50 per badge. The Commissioners discussed the types of badges <br /> available and who would be paying for them. <br /> M/S Piulle/ : To purchase badges 1"x3" in size in a more visible form. <br /> Motion died due to lack of a second. <br /> M/S Ball/ : To maintain the current badges the Commissioners have. <br /> Motion died due to lack of a second. <br /> M/S Fischer/Piulle: To send a letter to the City Council to suggest that badges <br /> be purchased for all commissions/boards. <br /> Commissioner Piulle withdrew her second of the motion; motion died. <br /> M/S Redington/Fischer: To proceed with plans to get badges for the Cultural <br /> Commission in a larger size and more visible. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> The following items were taken out of order: <br /> ITEM 5-FORMAL OPINION OF CULTURAL COMMISSION REGARDING <br /> GRAFFITI AS ART <br /> The Commissioners discussed their views of graffiti being classified as art and <br /> felt that they should send a letter to the City Council expressing their formal <br /> opinion. <br /> M/S Piulle/Redington: Adamantly feels that the Cultural Commission <br /> register its opposition to the idea of graffiti as <br /> art and not condone committing space to graffiti. <br /> Commissioner Piulle said she would be in favor of a wall designated for art by <br /> students or as a school project with strict adult supervision, but would not <br /> support a "graffiti wall". Commissioner Fischer said she considers graffiti an <br /> act of vandalism and finds it offensive. Commissioner Ball felt that graffiti <br /> on street signs is dangerous because it prevents them from being read by <br /> drivers. <br /> Motion passed. <br />
