The Commissioners returned to ITEM 3: They discussed the concert staging and the need for nine sections at a cost of $250.00 per section. Supervisor Hannon will make copies of the stage materials for the Commissioners' review. M/S Fischer/Redington: To put forth contingency plans to purchase the appropriate number of stage sections if the Commission does not receive any other proposals by May 15. Motion passed. ITEM 4-CURRENT COMMISSION ACTIVITIES UPDATE -Summer Concert Schedule/Location/Budget Supervisor Hannon gave the Commissioners a listing of concerts for 1994. She noted that the concert at Hoover Park is still in question because the mariachi band insists they do not need a sound system. The Commissioners agreed that a sound system was necessary and decided not to use this particular band. Supervisor Hannon recommended a group called "Conjunto Canaveral" for Hoover Park and will confirm the date with the group. Supervisor Hannon said the Canada College Jazz Band wants to play in downtown Redwood City but needs a place to store their music stands and other equipment. They are looking to perform on a Saturday at Farmers Market. Commissioner Fischer requested that the Commission extend a formal thank you to the Port Commission for being so civic minded and giving the Commission a grant to sponsor the Summer Concert series. She suggested that they be invited to help as announcers at the concerts. M/S Fischer/Redington: To send a thank you letter to the Port Commission for their grant and invite the Port Commissioners to act as M.C.'s at a concert; that the letter be signed by all the Commissioners; that the Port Commission be noted on all concert flyers; and that the first two (2) concerts mention the canned food drive at Stafford Park on the flyers. Motion passed. The Commissioners asked if the concert series could be mentioned in the next quarterly City-Wide Newsletter. Superintendent Hartman will contact Pat Valentine of the City Manager's Office to see if this is possible.
