architects will be coming back to the Council on April 26, and she invited the <br /> Commissioners to attend this City Council meeting. <br /> Commissioner Piulle mentioned that a study was sent to the City Council <br /> several years ago regarding the percent for art program but no response was <br /> received. Mayor Buchan suggested getting Councilwoman LaBerge to work <br /> with the Commission on this matter since she has indicated an interest in <br /> working with the Cultural Commission. T'he Commissioners said they <br /> would like to demonstrate what they can do and that they are not asking for a <br /> lot of money for public art, such as the amount used by the Library and Police <br /> Departments. They felt that the City Council needs to make a commitment to <br /> setting aside the money for public art and directing staff to do it. <br /> -City Hall Project <br /> Chairperson Filippi suggested working with the Historic Resources Advisory <br /> Board and the Archives Committee to use historic art in some areas where it <br /> can be displayed. Commissioner Piulle was concerned about exhibit space for <br /> art in the new facility and Mayor Buchan suggested keeping in touch with <br /> Planning Director Joel Patterson. <br /> M/S Piulle/Redington: To send a letter to Joel Patterson to make sure there is <br /> gallery exhibit space in the new City Hall facility for <br /> rotating art exhibits as done currently in the Main <br /> Library. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> M/S Ball/Fischer: To agree with the idea of rotating art but need to continue <br /> with the idea of permanent art. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> M/S Redington/Piulle: To continue the meeting for an additional 15 <br /> minutes. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> M/S Fischer/Ball: To send a letter to the City Council, Ed Everett, Joel <br /> Patterson stating that the Cultural Commission is <br /> concerned about the lack of public art in Redwood City <br /> and to urge them to consider an amount of money <br /> for public art at City Hall and any future projects. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Commissioner Redington said he met with Community Development <br /> Director Deborah Nelson about the Cultural Commission being involved at <br /> the very beginning of a project. He said she would talk about our concerns to <br /> staff and that she would like to attend a Cultural Commission meeting. <br />
