architects will be coming back to the Council on April 26, and she invited the Commissioners to attend this City Council meeting. Commissioner Piulle mentioned that a study was sent to the City Council several years ago regarding the percent for art program but no response was received. Mayor Buchan suggested getting Councilwoman LaBerge to work with the Commission on this matter since she has indicated an interest in working with the Cultural Commission. T'he Commissioners said they would like to demonstrate what they can do and that they are not asking for a lot of money for public art, such as the amount used by the Library and Police Departments. They felt that the City Council needs to make a commitment to setting aside the money for public art and directing staff to do it. -City Hall Project Chairperson Filippi suggested working with the Historic Resources Advisory Board and the Archives Committee to use historic art in some areas where it can be displayed. Commissioner Piulle was concerned about exhibit space for art in the new facility and Mayor Buchan suggested keeping in touch with Planning Director Joel Patterson. M/S Piulle/Redington: To send a letter to Joel Patterson to make sure there is gallery exhibit space in the new City Hall facility for rotating art exhibits as done currently in the Main Library. Motion passed. M/S Ball/Fischer: To agree with the idea of rotating art but need to continue with the idea of permanent art. Motion passed. M/S Redington/Piulle: To continue the meeting for an additional 15 minutes. Motion passed. M/S Fischer/Ball: To send a letter to the City Council, Ed Everett, Joel Patterson stating that the Cultural Commission is concerned about the lack of public art in Redwood City and to urge them to consider an amount of money for public art at City Hall and any future projects. Motion passed. Commissioner Redington said he met with Community Development Director Deborah Nelson about the Cultural Commission being involved at the very beginning of a project. He said she would talk about our concerns to staff and that she would like to attend a Cultural Commission meeting.
