ITEM 11-AFTER SCHOOL ART PROGRAM Chairperson Filippi was notified that a committee of parents of Redwood City students was formed to raise funds for an after school arts program. He has spoken with a representative from the committee who will make a presentation to the Commission at a later time. M/S Ball/Distefano: To table the Commission's sub-committee on the After School Program. Motion passed. ITEM 12-DON SAYE-COMMISSION ASSISTANT The Commission was advised that Don Saye is now a member of the Architectural Review Committee and as a result may not have enough time to assist with the Commission business. M/S Moran/Piulle: To table discussion on this matter until Don Saye can be at meeting. Motion passed. Referring back to Item 10: The Cominissioners discussed the grant request of the Optimist Club and their special request to use the Commission's new staging for the event. Commissioner Distefano suggested donating the free concert offered by Gary Joe and the Rowdy Boys for the event and have the Commission pay for another performing group. Chairperson Filippi agreed with Commissioner Distefano's suggestion and also wanted to provide them with platform staging. Commissioner Piulle felt it was important to establish a precedent of lending out the Commission's staging for non-City functions. Superintendent Hartman explained the department's policy regarding lending out furniture and felt we should not set a precedent of lending out the new staging. There are several pieces of the old staging available which could be lent out and would eliminate setting a precedent. Chairperson Filippi felt we should arrange a contract with anyone who would want to borrow either set of staging. M/S Piulle/Distefano: To institute a policy not to lend out the stage for non-city functions. Motion passed. The Commissioners discussed providing funds for the sound system for two perfornling bands at a cost of$200.00 per band.
