Representatives of DES
have examined the building and have found that it needs seismic and
structural upgrades. The building has undergone several renovations over
the years but it will still need seismic renovation and upgrading due to major
code changes. Mr. Gilman discussed various ways the building could be
reinforced and still maintain its historic integrity. Title 24 and ADA needs
must also be addressed to provide access to the main auditorium. Mr.
Gilman noted that a needs assessment will need to be done to determine
what the building will be used for in order to determine the scope of the work
that will be required. He felt the building has a lot of potential and stressed
the need to preserve and enhance what is there and not destroy what has
been done.
ITEM 6 -OPEN FORUM AND PUBLIC COMMENT
Chairperson Filippi announced the following members of the Carrington
Hall Committee:
Rosemary Filippi Fischer, Oliver Redington, Betty Moran - Cultural
Commission
Jack Anthony - Senior Affairs Commission
Ken Rolandelli, Joanne Thompson - Historic Resources Advisory Committee
Frank Bravo, Paul Leahy - Sequoia Alumni Association
Elena Mori - Kennedy Middle School drama educator & alumnus
Charlene Vigh - Sequoia High PTSA
Kathy Durkin - Sequoia High PTSA, Sports Booster, D.A.T.E.
John Carrington - Son of Otis Carrington & alumnus
Don Gielow - Sequoia Union High School District
Earl Walker - Sequoia High School Principal
Ray Doherty - Sequoia High drama educator
Representatives of DES Architectural firm
Tentative appointments:
Sequoia High School Student Body President
Editor of Sequoia High School newspaper
Chairperson Filippi opened up the meeting for public comment under this
agenda item for the following subjects:
a.)
