ITEM 10-RED MORTON CENTER ARTWORK
M/S Fisher/Saye: To have the Cultural Commission purchase a paver for
the Red Morton Community Center to be engraved with "Civic
Cultural Commission" and to purchase with funds from the
John Raitt Fund.
Motion passed.
ITEM 11-REVIEW OF REDEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES
The Commissioners received a copy of the guidelines in their monthly
packets and will retain for future reference.
ITEM 12-FOCUS 95-96
-Peninsula Symphony Concert
The date for the concert has been set for July 20, 1996 as part of Families Arts
Day and the location will be the covered picnic area at Red Morton Park. By
having the concert in this area, it will save the Commission $1,000 by not
having to rent a shade tent. The following things need to happen for the
event:
1.) Need to reserve 40-50 parking spaces for the performance; use of Armory
parking spaces for Symphony.
2.) No reserved ball games at Red Morton Park ballfields; schedule no other
events at CAB or Vets.
3.) Send notice to local residents to notify them of this event.
4.) Advertise in Redwood City Update, Citywide Recreation brochure,
purchase ads in newspapers.
5.) Sound drop for back-drop for band; bunting was donated from the Arts
Council.
6.) Commissioner Piulle will call about including this item in the water bill
and has volunteered to contact the appropriate person in charge.
ITEM 13 -EVALUATION OR DISCUSSION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD
DURING THE PAST 30 DAYS
-Commissioner Saye commended Ray Doherty and Elena Mori on their
excellent production of the "Salute to Sequoia". He gave the Commissioners
a copy of a letter he wrote to Rep. Anna Eshoo supporting the NEA. He
attended an excellent brass performance at the Fox Theater but said the
promotion must have been poor as the attendance was only 85-100 people.
