Dr. Ricardo Balderas discussed the various cultural <br /> programs going on at John Gill School. <br /> Mr. Larion stated there is already an existing committee that is meeting on a <br /> regular basis but said they are interested in forming a community-based <br /> advisory group and are looking for the support of the Civic Cultural <br /> Commission in the formation of this group. He suggested having the <br /> advisory committee be a sub-committee of the Culturai Commission. <br /> The Commissioners discussed the concept of the committee and how the <br /> Commission would be involved. Superintendent Hartman asked who <br /> would be sending out the agendas and minutes of this committee and Mr. <br /> Larion stated the School District has allocated funds to provide the necessary <br /> support staff and resources for the committee. <br /> M/S Distefano/Saye: To have the Cultural Commission be involved at the <br /> beginning of this community-based group to help <br /> support the arts in the schools. <br /> Commissioner Piulle asked about the Commissioners attending a meeting of <br /> the ad hoc committee. Ms. Nugent stated the next meeting will be held at on <br /> November 9 at 2:OOpm at McKinley School. <br /> Motion Amended Distefano/Saye: That the Cultural Commission spearhead <br /> the formation of an official performing <br /> arts/communication technology committee whose <br /> purpose is to assist the Redwood City Schools with <br /> its magnet program. <br /> The Commissioners asked that a letter be sent to the School District indicating <br /> the Commission's support of the committee with a copy to the City Council. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Commissioners Piulle, Filippi, and Ball will serve on the sub-committee and <br /> Commissioner Saye will be an alternate. <br /> ITEM 7- BALLET PROGRAM UPDATE <br /> Superintendent Hartman said she spoke with Rosine Bena who has been <br /> very busy with "Dracula" and has not had sufficient time to put her proposal <br /> together.
