M/S Piulle/Distefano: To regretfully decline the grant of the Optimist Club. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 6-CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE ARTS UPDATE <br /> Pat Nugent explained PACTAC is very interested in having community <br /> involvement on their committee and have sent surveys to the <br /> Commissioners to determine their level of expertise in various areas. <br /> Minutes of the PACTAC were also provided to all the Commissioners. She <br /> announced a talent/fashion show is being planned for McKinley and John <br /> Gill Schools in March 1996 and students will be singing in a Christmas <br /> rnncert at Carrington Hall on December �. Ms. Nugent explained they are <br /> trying to pull in different political forces in the community to expose the <br /> cultural needs of the schools. <br /> ITEM 7-REDWOOD CITY INTERNATIONAL <br /> Ed Nordness of Redwood City International spoke about the logistics of <br /> organizing the visit of 26 people from China to Redwood City. He explained <br /> that 22 of the people did not speak English and required the use of an <br /> interpreter. The performing group presented successful performances at <br /> Canada College and the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. The artist group <br /> had worked on the display at the Art Center and also provided <br /> demon�trations at Sequoia and Woodside High Schools to 200 students at <br /> each location. Mr. Nordness said he regretted the miscommunications that <br /> occurred regarding #he event and that it was an oversight the Commission <br /> was not given proper credit for their support. Commissioner Piulle noted <br /> that the Commission would have loved to participate in the event if they had <br /> been advised in a more timely manner. Mr. Nordness stated Redwood City � <br /> International appreciated the efforts of the Cultural Commission and thanked <br /> them for their support of the Chinese delegation visit. It was suggested that <br /> the Cultural Commissioners receive copies of Redwood City International's <br /> minutes to keep abreast of their events. <br /> ITEM 9-PERCENT FOR PUBLIC ART POLICY <br /> This item will be deferred until the January meeting. <br /> ITEM 10-MEETING PROTOCOL <br /> Commissioner Filippi observed that the Commission meetings were very <br /> lengthy and made the following suggestions to help save �ime: <br /> 1.) Grant presenters did not need to "re-hash" their application during their <br /> presentation to the Commission; they only need to advise the Commission if <br /> anything is different or has changed from their original grant application, and <br /> then answer questions from the Commissioners. <br />
