M/S Piulle/Distefano: To regretfully decline the grant of the Optimist Club. Motion passed. ITEM 6-CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE ARTS UPDATE Pat Nugent explained PACTAC is very interested in having community involvement on their committee and have sent surveys to the Commissioners to determine their level of expertise in various areas. Minutes of the PACTAC were also provided to all the Commissioners. She announced a talent/fashion show is being planned for McKinley and John Gill Schools in March 1996 and students will be singing in a Christmas rnncert at Carrington Hall on December �. Ms. Nugent explained they are trying to pull in different political forces in the community to expose the cultural needs of the schools. ITEM 7-REDWOOD CITY INTERNATIONAL Ed Nordness of Redwood City International spoke about the logistics of organizing the visit of 26 people from China to Redwood City. He explained that 22 of the people did not speak English and required the use of an interpreter. The performing group presented successful performances at Canada College and the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. The artist group had worked on the display at the Art Center and also provided demon�trations at Sequoia and Woodside High Schools to 200 students at each location. Mr. Nordness said he regretted the miscommunications that occurred regarding #he event and that it was an oversight the Commission was not given proper credit for their support. Commissioner Piulle noted that the Commission would have loved to participate in the event if they had been advised in a more timely manner. Mr. Nordness stated Redwood City � International appreciated the efforts of the Cultural Commission and thanked them for their support of the Chinese delegation visit. It was suggested that the Cultural Commissioners receive copies of Redwood City International's minutes to keep abreast of their events. ITEM 9-PERCENT FOR PUBLIC ART POLICY This item will be deferred until the January meeting. ITEM 10-MEETING PROTOCOL Commissioner Filippi observed that the Commission meetings were very lengthy and made the following suggestions to help save �ime: 1.) Grant presenters did not need to "re-hash" their application during their presentation to the Commission; they only need to advise the Commission if anything is different or has changed from their original grant application, and then answer questions from the Commissioners.
