She introduced
Miss Redwood City Ahtossa Piroozfar who has participated in many
community activities in Redwood City. Ms. Piroozfar spoke about how
important the scholarship is to her since she attends law school and felt it is
very necessary for the program. Mrs. Mayers said they are looking at
continuing the program and would again like the Commission's support.
Chairperson Filippi, Commissioners Redington, Distefano, and Moran stated
they would be in favor of supporting this event again. The Commissioners
mentioned that due to budget constraints, they may not be able to consider
the $1,000.00 grant request and asked what other amount would be acceptable.
ITEM 5-REDWOOD SHORES PRESENTATION-SHIRLEY GIRNLER
Shirley Girnler, Board member of the Redwood Shores Homeowners
Association explained their group is requesting funds for seed money for
fund-raising programs so they will become self-supporting. She said the
Association wants to bring the community together and are interested in
presenting concerts in the park, an International Food Fest and also
something to help with senior transportation. Chairperson Filippi suggested
combining this request with our Concert in the Parks Program. It was
suggested that a sub-committee be formed to discuss this matter further.
Ms. Girnler said they would like to do at least three concerts held on Sundays
during the summer.
The following items were taken out of order:
ITEM 7-CONCERTS IN THE PARKS PROGRAM
The Commissioners discussed combining weekend concerts in Redwood
Shores with this program. Supervisor Hannon stated that weekend set-up is
a problem due to transportation of staging and staff overtime costs. Ms.
Girnler said her preference is to have the concerts at Marlin Park. The
Commission decided to appoint a committee to work with Shirley Girnler
