M/S Distefano/Fischer: To be able to use the $15,000.00 at any venue in the
1995-1996 Fiscal Year.
Commissioner Redington said the funds were given to the Commission by
City Council to grant for Fox Theater presentations and he would be hesitant
to change.
Commissioner Fischer said she would like to see different venues as some
performances could be done cheaper at another location. There have not
been a lot of applicants to the current program and it may not be the best use
of money.
Commissioner Distefano agreed with Commissioner Fischer and felt that we
should be able to open it up to more groups.
Commissioner Ball felt the program has been extremely successful in
promoting the Fox Theater and she is willing to keep the funding for the Fox
if we request an additional $20,000.00 for the Cultural Commission.
Commissioner Moran felt the Fox Theater is the only place of its size for these
types of performances.
Commissioner Piulle said she is all for continuing to give the $15,000.00 to
the Fox but only to cover rental costs, no production costs.
Chairperson Filippi felt the Fox Theater and Carrington Hall are two quite
different facilities and should not be competing for funds. He felt our
commitment was to the entire City and does not like giving $45,000.00 to one
venue and $16,000.00 for the entire City.
Motion passed. (4-yes, 3-no)
M/S TP/BM: That any rentals at the Fox Theater in the future should only be
funded for the amount of rental costs and funds will not
include production costs.
Motion passed.
Continuation of Item 7:
M/S BM/VB: To allow the Optimist Club to continue to serve food at
concert series.
Motion passed.
ITEM 8-ART CONTEST TIMELINE AND THEME
M/S Redington/Fischer: To have this year's theme for the art contest be for
Historical Preservation in Redwood City.
Motion passed.
Students will be asked to draw their rendition of the most historical building
in Redwood City. The Historic Resources Advisory Committee will provide a
list and/or pictures which will be given to teachers to assist with the project.
