Ms. <br /> Victorino explained their budget is under $100,000.00 and parents are invited <br /> to participate. She said Hispanos Unidos is currently investigating different <br /> modalities for theater. Members are currently attending a theater arts class at <br /> Canada College which she hopes will help encourage students to stay in <br /> school. Hispanos Unidos currently has a small extension project at Bayside <br /> School in San Mateo and they have also started a community service project <br /> at Garfield School. <br /> Ms. Victorino said they have received funding from Tobacco Control, City of <br /> Redwood City and Yerba Buena Center and are having discussions with <br /> Packard Foundation for possible funding. She showed a video to the <br /> Commission of their Yerba Buena Center performance. Chairperson <br /> Redington thanked Ms. Victorino for her presentation and asked her to keep <br /> the Commission aware of their upcoming activities. <br /> ITEM 3-BALLET SCHOOL <br /> Rosine Bena presented a full proposal with several different options to the <br /> Commissioners including a dance program with difference forms of dance, <br /> not just ballet. She said she visited the Fox Theater and intends to visit <br /> additional venues but felt the Fox Theater is very expensive and there are lots <br /> of extra costs associated with having a performance there. <br /> M/S Filippi/Saye: To continue to explore Ms. Bena's proposals with the <br /> ultimate idea to fund a ballet school. <br /> Superintendent Hartman suggested forming a sub-committee to discuss Ms. <br /> Bena's proposal in more detail. The Commissioners suggested informing the <br /> Port Commission of another opportunity to become involved in a project. <br /> Commissioners Fischer (chair), Distefano, and Saye volunteered to be on the <br /> sub-committee and agreed to meet before the June Commission meeting. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 4 -ART CONTEST-AWARDS PROGRAM FOR JUNE <br /> Supervisor Hannon displayed a sample trophy for the Commissioners' <br /> review which will be given to the winners of the Art Contest. She stated all <br /> the trophies and the engraving are being donated by Geri Mayers. <br /> M/S Piulle/Filippi: To send a thank you to Geri Mayers and invite her to <br /> attend the june awards ceremony. <br /> Motion passed. <br />
