new parks at Redwood Shores, and the $20,000.00 increase the Cultural
Commission had requested in their budget. She explained the process the
Commissioners would follow if they wished to present their proposal to the
City Council. An informational memo could be sent to the City Council
before the budget hearing on July 10 and the Commissioners would have an
opportunity to speak at that specific budget hearing. She suggested forming a
sub-committee to develop the informational memo.
Commissioner Piulle noted that $14,000.00 of the Commission's proposed
budget increase was to provide public art at the new Red Morton Center and
she felt we should ask the City Council for funds for public art acquisition.
During the construction process of the new Library and the new Police
Facility, monies were designated for art at both sites by the City Council. She
suggested formulating a proposal to go to the Architectural Advisory
Committee to get their support on this matter.
M/S Ball/Filippi: To extend the meeting to 10:30pm.
Motion passed.
Commissioners Filippi and Ball volunteered to form a sub-committee to
work on the budget matter.
M/S Piulle/Distefano: To separate future needs into two items; one a budget
item; and second, the art work acquisition for Red
Morton Center.
Motion passed.
Commissioner Piulle and Saye will form a sub-committee to work on the
public art acquisition matter.
ITEM 9-CONCERTS
Supervisor Hannon advised the Commission that all concerts are confirmed
except the Navy Band and the Sequoia High School concert.
ITEM 10-FOCUS '95
-There is a Senior Art Display at the main corridor of the San Mateo County
Government building,
-The Redwood City Art Center Board is working on a "Hard Hat Preview" of
their new facility.
-Commissioner Filippi asked if Chairperson Redington had spoken with the
City Council about the Commission being involved with all projects and it
was explained that the CIP budget will be developed shortly and that list can
be presented to the Commission to review and decide what the Cultural
Commission should be involved in.
