M/S Filippi/Saye: To recommend that the Carrington Hall Committee
recommend to the Redevelopment Agency that they fund
a structural study of Carrington Hall costing
approximately$25,000.00 to be done by DES, Inc.
Kent Brown of DES, Inc. stated a structural study would take 4-5 weeks to
complete and another 2-3 weeks to finalize the report. He indicated the
Sequoia Union High School District had DES, Inc. complete a preliminary
report one year ago to ensure the building conformed to State building codes
and the building was deemed suitable for occupancy.
Motion passed.
ITEM 4-JOE MARCHI-REPORT ON LECTURE SERIES
The Commissioners received a report from Joe Marchi which indicated that
the Speaker Series co-sponsored by the Commission, netted a profit of
$1,432.00 of which 50% belongs to the Commission. Mr. Marchi stated in his
letter that he would like to come to a future meeting to discuss and evaluate
the series. Superintendent Hartman will provide the balance of the John
Raitt fund for the Commissioners at the next meeting.
ITEM 5 -ROSINE BENA- BALLET PROGRAM
This matter was deferred until later in the evening.
ITEM 6-BUDGET
Commissioners Ball and Filippi met with Superintendent Hartman three
weeks ago to review the Commission's budget and options available.
Commissioner Filippi explained the various options they discussed:
1.) Expand the venue of the $15,000.00 currently going for Fox Theater
productions. It costs an average of $900.00 more to have an event at the Fox
Theater than at other venues. The Commissioners would like the funds
available to be used at all venues in the city.
2.) Have the Cultural Commission oversee the entire cultural budget of
$45,000.00 ($30,000 & $15,000) that goes to one venue.
A draft of the two proposals was formulated to the City Council for the
Commissioners' review. The Commissioners reviewed the draft and had
various comments. Commissioner Piulle asked if the $14,000.00 for the
public art acquisition for the new Red Morton Center should be a separate
item because it is a one-time specialty budget item which inflates the
Commission's budget. She explained she would rather take the $1,000.00
