Ms. Weber <br /> can do a "mock up" of the art work for 20% of the total purchase price. Vice <br /> Chairperson Piulle explained she wanted to take this funding proposal to the <br /> City Council to have it considered separately from the Cultural Commission <br /> budget. She is also looking for the City Council to provide alternative <br /> funding sources for the art work if they cannot provide the funding from the <br /> general funds. Commissioner Ball congratulated Vice Chairperson Piulle for <br /> her work on the art acquisition for the new Red Morton Center. <br /> M/S Fischer/Filippi: To endorse the art work for the Red Morton Center. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Superintendent Hartman thanked all the people serving on the budget <br /> sub-committee for their work in this process. <br /> Vice Chairperson Piulle brought up the Percentage for Public Art idea that the <br /> Commission has previously discussed and the need to keep presenting this <br /> information to the City Council. <br /> ITEM 8-EVALUATION OR DISCUSSION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD <br /> DURING THE PAST 30 DAYS <br /> -Commissioner Distefano suggested not combining our regular June meeting <br /> and the Art Contest Awards on the same night. She felt having a special <br /> night for the Awards ceremony would be better for the children and their <br /> families. Commissioner Distefano also attended the Miss Redwood City <br /> Pageant on July 1 and said she felt it was a wonderful program. She spoke <br /> about the talent, poise, and personal goals of the contestants. <br /> -Commissioner Filippi stated the El Camino Youth Symphony concert at <br /> Stafford Park was well attended and he especially liked the opera <br /> presentation. <br /> -Vice Chairperson Piulle announced the official Art Center opening on <br /> Sunday, July 18. She said she attended the Navy Band concert at the Port on <br /> June 24 but felt the hot weather probably deterred many people from <br /> attending. She mentioned the El Camino Youth Symphony mentioned the <br /> Cultural Commission several times in their concert program. <br /> -Commissioner Saye attended the "At The Movies" performance of Studio S <br /> at Canada College and felt it was an excellent program. He also stated "The <br /> Big Beat" program at Carrington Hall was a remarkable performance and <br /> commented on the great sets and excellent work by director Bev Hilliard and <br /> her husband Jerry. The attendance was low which also may have been <br /> attributed to the hot weather and the fact that more promotion was needed <br />
