Commissioner Piulle stated she wanted the funding to go towards music for
the Climate Best Fest and Mr. Holt indicated he could comply with that
request. The final approval of the budget will go to City Council on August 14
and any funds granted to groups need to reflect that funding is contingent
upon City Council approval of the Cultural Commission's budget on that
date.
Motion passed.
Returning to Item 3:
M/S Filippi/Saye: To grant $3,500 to the Peninsula Symphony with funding
subject to City Council approval of the budget.
Commissioner Piulle said the proposal from the Peninsula Symphony also
included $1,000 for a tent and she felt this additional amount should be
granted because a tent would probably be needed.
Motion Amended Filippi/Saye: To grant $3,500 to the Peninsula Symphony
with the option of an additional $1,000 for tenting
facilities if needed, subject to City Council approval of the
budget.
Motion passed.
Returning to Item 4:
M/S Piulle/Fischer: To grant $250.00 to the Park and Recreation Commission
for a small band for the fundraising event subject to City
Council approval of the budget.
Motion passed.
IZeturning to Item 5:
M/S Ball/Distefano: To grant $200.00 to Casa de Redwood subject to City
Council approval of the budget.
Motion passed. 6-Yes, 1-Abstain (Filippi-may be part of performing band)
ITEM 7- BALLET PROGRAM UPDATE
Commissioners Fischer, Distefano and Saye met and developed ideas to be
included in the cover letter for the ballet proposal. The cover letter and
information packets were delivered on August 2 to the School District for
each of the school principals and Superintendent Crates. The presentation
will be made at a Principals' meeting during mid to late August.
Chairperson Redington explained he contacted Redevelopment Director
Mike Church regarding using Redevelopment funds for the proposed ballet
program. Mr. Church notified him that the ballet program does not fit the
Redevelopment guidelines.
