Chairperson Redington reported that his meeting with Mayor Gasparini has
been re-scheduled for next week and he will report back at the September
meeting.
ITEM 9-FOCUS 95
The Commissioners requested that the chairperson of the Architectural
Advisory Committee be invited to our September meeting to discuss the
percent for art policy and the mural policy. Chairperson Redington will
contact the chairperson and invite him to the meeting.
Commissioner Filippi said he contacted the City Attorney regarding the
Commissioners being provided passes to performances of groups they had
funded. The City Attorney said we can ask that a sufficient number of passes
be provided for the Commissioners to attend and evaluate an event. This
should also be part of the funding guidelines.
Commissioner Piulle suggested that a subcommittee be formed to review the
funding guidelines and Commissioners Ball, Distefano and Filippi
volunteered to work on the subcommittee.
ITEM 10-COMMISSION TERM LIMITS
Commissioner Filippi would like the Cultural Commission to take the lead
on the issue of commission term limits. He felt that incumbents are always
selected and it is very difficult for new people to get on boards and
commissions. He suggested that the Commission consider the idea of putting
term limits on commission appointments to encourage more people to serve
and suggested a two term maximum effective January 1996 and perhaps
including a "grandfather clause" to exclude current commissioners.
Commissioner Distefano expressed her support of Commissioner Filippi's
suggestion.
M/S Filippi/Distefano: That the Commission consider requesting the City
Council to change the policy effective january 1, 1996 to
establish a limit of two subsequent terms limits for all
new incoming Cultural Commissioners and consider
including a grandfather clause to exclude current
Commissioners.
It was suggested that the City Council look at considering term limits for all
boards and commissions.
Motion passed. 5-Yes, 2-No (Ball, Piulle)
