-Discussion on Percent for Public Art Proposal
Mr. Gilman stated AAC has not discussed this matter and the Commissioners
gave him a brief history of this proposal. They explained that many cities
have a "Percentage for Public Art Program" where 1/2°/a of the construction
budget of a public building is set aside for the purchase of art for the new
facility. Commissioner Piulle said there are currently 34 pieces of public art in
Redwood City which have been purchased and catalogued. She said funds
were allocated for art for the new Library and the new Police Facility, but no
funds were allocated for art for the new Red Morton Center. The Park and Recreation Commission will have a booth at
the Climate Best Fest and at the Department's Halloween event to sell the
handprint tiles. The completed tiles will be installed around the door frame
of the child care area in the new facility.
Commissioner Piulle mentioned the Commission's FY 95-96 budget request
for funds to purchase art work for the new facility was rejected.
ITEM 6-CONCERT PROGRAM EVALUATION
Supervisor Hannon explained that a press release announcing the entire 1995
concert series and individual press releases announcing each concert were
sent out during the summer. Additionally, over 600 flyers were sent out to
participants in the Hoover Summer School program to advertise the
program. She noted that attendance was best with the concerts held at
