Civic Cultural Commission page j <br /> Minutes of November 7, 1996 <br /> ITEM 2-PRESENTATION BY YOUNG ARTISTS BALLET THEATER <br /> Brett Martin, Advisory Board Member and teacher at the Young Artists Ballet <br /> Theater (YABT), gave a presentation about the organization and introduced <br /> Zoltan Peter and Wanda Carmella, also from the same group. She showed a <br /> video of one of their performances and explained the history of the Young <br /> Artists Ballet Theater. The YABT was formed in 1993 and is a non-profit <br /> ballet theater which provides scholarships to its participants. She invited the <br /> Commissioners to attend a YABT fundraiser at the San Mateo Elks on <br /> January 25, 1997 and cost is $50.00 per person. Ms. Martin stated YABT wants <br /> to expand fundraising in 1997 and have begun approaching San Mateo <br /> County corporations to help underwrite fundraisers or be long term sponsors. <br /> ITEM 3-REDWOOD SYMPHONY GRANT REQUEST <br /> Executive Director Claudia Herzog of the Redwood Symphony announced <br /> the Symphony is in its 12th season and is based at Canada College. She and <br /> Board President Peter Stalin spoke about the history of the organization. <br /> Ms. Herzog noted they now offer pre-concert lectures and afternoon concerts <br /> which are very popular. The grant they are requesting would help fund <br /> organ rental for their December concert and the featured artist's expenses and <br /> stipend. <br /> M/S Redington/Filippi: To grant $1,000.00 to the Redwood Symphony. <br /> Motion amended Redington/Filippi: To grant $2,000.00 to the Redwood <br /> Symphony. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 4-CARRINGTON HALL UPDATE <br /> Steve Penna reported that because the outcome of the November 5 election, <br /> there will now be $2.75 million available for the Carrington Hall renovation. <br /> Approximately $2.75 million will still needed to complete the renovation but <br /> he is hoping to reach that amount within the next year . He stated the School <br /> District will be providing a grant packet to the Packard Foundation and <br /> understood the Commissioners were providing a letter of support along with <br /> the grant. The Commissioners reviewed and discussed the draft letter to the <br /> Packard Foundation. <br /> M/S Britschgi/Distefano: To approve the draft letter and have the <br /> Commissioners sign it so it can be given to Steve Penna for <br /> inclusion in his grant packet. <br /> Motion passed. <br />
