Civic Cultura! Commission page 4
Minutes of November 7, 1996
ITEM 5-SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS
-PACTAC
Commissioner Filippi reported the School District is working on a directory.
-Publicity
Commissioner Distefano reported she is pre-publicizing all Cultural
Commission events each week in the Almanac.
=Tis the Season Holiday Event
A letter is being sent to Mayor Hartnett inviting him to the tree lighting on
December 8 at 6:OOpm; Chairperson Piulle will sign the letter.
-Arguello Bust Relocation
Commissioner Redington reported the sub-committee met with Charles Jany
and the people who originally donated the Arguello bust to determine a new
site, but the JPA has not decided where their ramp is going to be placed.
Commissioner Redington mentioned that there has been a suggestion by the
original donating group that the entryway/lawn area at Arguello and
Broadway be re-named Arguello Plaza. Mr. Acosta, a member of the original
group, spoke about the proposed idea and stated the exact date of the
dedication has not been determined. He would like to have the celebration
include music, food, a proclamation for the entire Arguello family, and
include representatives from California. He estimated the cost for the
dedication would be approximately $1,800.00 and he would be approaching
local merchants for donations of food.
M/S Redington/Saye: To support the concept of naming this particular area
Arguello Plaza and to recommend this to City Council.
Motion passed.
Ken Rolandelli of Historic Resources Advisory Council (HRAC) stated they
would like to have a bronze plaque installed at the arch at Arguello and
Broadway. This plaque would be exactly like the one at the Broadway and
Marshall arch. Cost would be $750.00 and should be ready in early Spring
1997. Mr. Rolandelli asked if Mr. Acosta would consider having the
unveiling of the new plaque at the same time as the dedication celebration
and Mr. Acosta agreed. Mr. Rolandelli and Mr. Acosta will meet to discuss
further.
-Hoover Mural
Commissioner Saye reported teacher Jesse Silverman received additional
funding to meet his goal and complete the project. The dedication will be in
May 1997 and the Commission will be advised of the date.
