that they planned to hold the event but they had not received the Target grant yet <br /> and they were somewhat uncertain about all that was included in Families Arts Day. <br /> Chairperson Piulle suggested that we have several alternatives to consider: <br /> 1. Do we continue to conduct the event with the Arts Council? <br /> 2. Do we take it over ourselves? <br /> 3. Do we hire consultants to do an event? <br /> 4. Do we cancel for this year? <br /> M/S Distefano/Saye: To put the item on the April 11 Special Meeting Agenda and <br /> make a decision at that time. <br /> Distefano/Saye withdrew the motion and the second. <br /> Commissioner Ball stated that we have had good relations in the past with the Arts <br /> Council and that the new Director should be invited to come to a Commission <br /> meeting. Commissioners stated they felt we needed to keep funds in reserve in <br /> order to assure our being able to conduct the Families Arts Day in the event that <br /> other funds are not available. <br /> M/S Redington/Distefano: To invite the Director, Peter Weiglin, and members of <br /> the Board to attend the special meeting of the Cultural <br /> Commission on April 11, to discuss the Families Arts <br /> Day. <br /> Motion carried. <br /> ITEM 3-TAFT SCHOOL GRANT REQUEST <br /> M/S Filippi/Fischer: To deny the grant to Taft School due to the fact that Taft has <br /> been the recipient of a large grant from DHL and that the <br /> Commission is already funding a dance program at a R.C. <br /> school. <br /> Roll Call vote: Chairperson Piulle - no; Commissioners Filippi - yes; Ball - yes; <br /> Distefano - yes; Fischer - yes; Redington - no; Saye -no. <br /> Motion carried: Four yes; three no's <br /> ITEM 4-KENNEDY SCHOOL GRANT REQUEST <br /> M/S Redington/Saye: To grant $2300 to Kennedy School for the drama production, <br /> "The King and I". <br /> Chairperson Piulle indicated that she felt that amount of money was too much and <br /> would vote no for that reason. <br /> Roll Call vote: Chairperson Piulle - no; Commissioners Filippi - yes; Ball - yes; <br /> Distefano- yes; Fischer - yes; Redington- yes; Saye- yes. <br /> Motion canied: Six yes; one no <br />
