Civic Cultural Commission Page 4 Minutes of July 11, 1996 -Red Morton Center Art The request to purchase the Red Morton Center art work will be going to City Council on July 29 or August 12. -Families Arts Day Manager Hannon reported there will be 11 artists booths and one storytelling booth at Families Arts Day on Saturday, July 27. The flyers have been delivered to Target and will be given to the public very soon. -Mural Guidelines The mural guidelines v:ere approved by the City Council with amendments. Chairperson Piulle thanked the Mural Guidelines Sub-Committee (Piulle and Distefano) for their work and the announced the sub-committee is now disbanded due to the completion of the project. -Budget The City Council approved the Civic Cultural Commission budget and the budget for the entire department. There were no service level reductions and fee increases in building permits would be considered to deal with the anticipated shortfall in FY97-98. It was mentioned that the Percent for Public Art Sub-Committee should meet to discuss this matter. ITEM 4-REVIEW OF GRANT GUIDELINES Chairperson Piulle recommended that if a person or organization does not fill out their grant application properly that staff have them correct it before it comes before the Commission. Chairperson Piulle asked the Commissioners to contact her with any proposed changes to the Grant Guidelines prior to the next meeting. ITEM 2-SISTER CITY INTERNATIONAL PROPOSAL FOR PUBLIC ART AT THE NEW CITY HALL Superintendent Centeno stated Redwood City International has approached our Sister City in Zhuhai, China for a piece of artwork for the new City Hall. The Commissioners were given a handout about the proposed fisherwoman statue and its placement within the City Hall grounds. She reported Zhuhai is looking at this proposal which will cost approximately $50,000.00. Redwood City Intemational will probably come back to the Commission in August.
