Commission Page 4 <br /> Minutes of August 1, 1996 <br /> -Families Arts Day <br /> Attendance at Families Arts Day was estimated to be 1,000 people; 325 bags <br /> were given out to children as compared to 345 bags last year. The <br /> Commissioners discussed the event and the concert presented by the <br /> Peninsula Symphony. Although the Peninsula Symphony agreed to perform <br /> under the covered picnic area behind the CAB, it turned out not a good <br /> location as far as acoustics and visability. Commissioner Saye noted he would <br /> be happy to write up a small newspaper article for each concert. <br /> M/S Filippi/Redington: To have Commissioner Saye write up a small <br /> newspaper article for each concert. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Chairperson Piulle asked that thank you letters be sent to Sgt. Frank Wilkins <br /> of the Police Department, Bob Hall of the Fire Department, and See's Candies <br /> for their donations for the childrens' bags, and Target Stores for the grant for <br /> the event. <br /> -Sister City International City Hall Art Project <br /> Chairperson Piulle will continue to represent the Commission at Sister City <br /> International meetings. <br /> ITEM 5-SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Holiday Concert <br /> Commissioner Ball reported she and Commissioners Filippi and Saye met to <br /> develop plans for the Holiday Concert and coordination of events in the <br /> downtown area. She announced there will be a meeting on August 15 at <br /> 7:OOpm in Room 1 at the Community Activities Building. She and the other <br /> Commissioners will be contacting representatives from many organizations <br /> to attend this meeting in order to coordinate all holiday events to occur <br /> during a one week period of time. The sub-committee will report back at the <br /> September meeting and possible funding will be discussed at that time. <br /> -Percentage for the Arts <br /> This sub-committee will meet and report at the September meeting. <br /> ITEM 7-EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE <br /> PAST 30 DAYS <br /> -Commissioner Saye attended a great production of "Little Shop of Horrors" <br /> at the Fox Theater and mentioned the excellent attendance. <br /> -Commissioner Ball attended the Italian Fiesta in San Mateo and mentioned <br /> over $130,000 was raised to benefit PARCA. <br />
