Civic Cultural Commission Page S
Minutes of January 2, 1997
The results of the program critique will be presented at the February
Commission meeting. Commissioner Ball felt it was a good first time event
and provided a week of good cheer to the community. She also thanked
Commissioner Filippi for his hard work on the event. Commissioner Saye
said he felt the Downtown Merchants will help out next year.
-City Hall Historical Art
Commissioner Filippi said he called Helen Graves for a letter of direction on
this project.
-Red Morton Art Opening
Commissioner Ball said she has not been able to reach anyone and will call
Pauline Truscelli of the Park and Recreation Commission for assistance.
Supervisor Jan Knight is working with the architect on the art installation
and is also working on the signage for the art work. Chairperson Piulle will
consult with the artist on possibly covering up the art work before its
dedication.
-Banner Policy
The Commission wrote a letter to City Council regarding its recommendation
but had not received a response. Commissioner Distefano said she contacted
the cities of Menlo Park, San Carlos and Belmont regarding their banner
policies. Menlo Park will only allow a banner to be hung in two places in
their city. San Carlos does not have any set policy but have only one place on
Laurel Street to hang a banner; they will accept banners advertising events in
other cities. Belmont was unable to provide information when she called.
Commissioner Filippi said he wants to give priority to Redwood City events
and wants a banner policy for the City. Commissioner Distefano said she will
try to get something in writing from each city she contacted on their banner
policies. Conunissioner Saye said the Merchants Group recently sent a letter
to the City Council with the same recommendation as the Commission.
Commissioner Filippi suggested having outside groups charged to hang
banners in Redwood City because of the costs involved. This matter will be
placed on February agenda.
-Summer Concerts '97/Port Concert Development
Commissioner Filippi said he spoke to Mike Giari and the Port will notify the
Commission after January 7 on the date of the Port concert.
TTEM 8-FOCUS 96-97
The Commissioners discussed the Chamber of Commerce community events
hotline and how information would be supplied and updated to the
Chamber.
