Commission page j <br /> Minutes of June S, 1997 <br /> M/S Saye/Filippi: To continue with the Optimist Club providing this <br /> support at the Summer Concert Series. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> -Superintendent Centeno shared a letter from Commissioner Piulle <br /> requesting that the Commission hear the grant presentations this evening but <br /> not approve funding of the grants until the July meeting. <br /> ITEM 1- LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Library Supervisor Celia LaRivere announced the Library received a <br /> $150,000.00 bequest from dedicated library user Bessie A. Evans. She also <br /> announced there are 3 finalists for the Library Director position and the <br /> Library Board expects to appoint someone by July. She stated that ongoing <br /> Internet classes are being offered and this will be the "Summer of 2000 <br /> Children". Copies of the Library's June Event Schedule was distributed to the <br /> Commissioners. A copy is attached to the June minutes. <br /> ITEM 2-CONSIDERATION OF GRANT REQUESTS <br /> Chairperson Ball spoke about Commissioner Piulle's letter regarding not <br /> approving grant requests until the budget is approved in July. She also spoke <br /> about the decision not to do Families Arts Day this year in connection with <br /> the Redwood City Art Center request. <br /> M/S Redington/ : To hear the grant presentations this evening but <br /> take no action until the July meeting. <br /> Motion died due to lack of a second. <br /> Commissioner Filippi stated his concerns regarding not appropriating monies <br /> as the Commission set a precedent last month. <br /> M/S Saye/ : To expend balance of this fiscal year's budget so that the <br /> City Council would not see the Commission as short sighted. <br /> Motion died due to lack of a second. <br /> -Redwood City Art Center <br /> Janie Driscoll of the Redwood City Art Center made a presentation before the <br /> Commission and requested $500.00 for art activities for the Make*A*Circus <br /> event in August. She also demonstrated two ideas of art activities which <br /> would be done at the event. <br />
