Civic Cultura! Commission page j Minutes of June S, 1997 M/S Saye/Filippi: To continue with the Optimist Club providing this support at the Summer Concert Series. Motion passed. -Superintendent Centeno shared a letter from Commissioner Piulle requesting that the Commission hear the grant presentations this evening but not approve funding of the grants until the July meeting. ITEM 1- LIBRARY PROGRAMS Library Supervisor Celia LaRivere announced the Library received a $150,000.00 bequest from dedicated library user Bessie A. Evans. She also announced there are 3 finalists for the Library Director position and the Library Board expects to appoint someone by July. She stated that ongoing Internet classes are being offered and this will be the "Summer of 2000 Children". Copies of the Library's June Event Schedule was distributed to the Commissioners. A copy is attached to the June minutes. ITEM 2-CONSIDERATION OF GRANT REQUESTS Chairperson Ball spoke about Commissioner Piulle's letter regarding not approving grant requests until the budget is approved in July. She also spoke about the decision not to do Families Arts Day this year in connection with the Redwood City Art Center request. M/S Redington/ : To hear the grant presentations this evening but take no action until the July meeting. Motion died due to lack of a second. Commissioner Filippi stated his concerns regarding not appropriating monies as the Commission set a precedent last month. M/S Saye/ : To expend balance of this fiscal year's budget so that the City Council would not see the Commission as short sighted. Motion died due to lack of a second. -Redwood City Art Center Janie Driscoll of the Redwood City Art Center made a presentation before the Commission and requested $500.00 for art activities for the Make*A*Circus event in August. She also demonstrated two ideas of art activities which would be done at the event.
