Minutes of the Civic Cultural Commission Page 3
Thursday, March 5, 1998
are the new lice officers and paramedic service already approved by Council.
Commissioners will need to decide a budget request amount during their April
meeting. Commissioner Britschgi asked that consideration be given to setting
aside an amount for public art.
ITEM 4— SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS
Tis the Season
Chairperson Ball reported that minutes of the evaluation meeting had been
included in the packets. She noted that the greatest need was to find a better
means of letting people know about the events. She noted a Saturday evening
program at Carrington Hall was outstanding but poorly attended. The parade
and fireworks were enthusiastically received. The first organizing meeting for the
1998 season will be held in April 22, 1998.
Public Art
Commissioner Britschgi asked to be placed on this sub-committee. Chairperson
Ball appointed Commissioner Britischgi to the group and asked her to serve as
the Chairperson.
Summer Concerts
Chairperson Ball reviewed the list of summer concerts already contracted. EI
Camino Youth Symphony has let us know they will not be able to perform this
year. Chairperson Ball said she would be going to the Peninsula Youth
Symphony performance on Saturday and would report back to staff if they should
be invited to fill-in for EI Camino Youth Symphony.
Youth and Special Events
Commissioner Britschgi reported that the special event noted in last month's
minutes of the Redwood City Art Center and Carrington Hall had been cancelled.
Budget
Superintendent Centeno reviewed the draft request for proposals and funding
process for grants.
M/S Saye/Britschgi: To approve the funding guidelines and the request for
proposals as submitted.
Motion passed unanimously.
ITEM 5— FOCUS 1998-2000
Commissioner Britschgi suggested that the Commission begin putting together
an event to celebrate the new millennium.
