Civic Cukura/Commissivn Page 3 <br /> Minutes of June 1, 20�0 <br /> family concert at Canada College and aiso inciudes eight educationai visits to <br /> Redwood City School by himself and two musicians. <br /> -Tis the §eason <br /> Virginia Ball stated that Tis the Season is in the process appiying for a non- <br /> profit tax identification status. She explained this year's parade will be <br /> handled by the Downtown Business Association with fireworks, sing-a-long <br /> and tree lighting ceremony to follow. Fred Ganjei of the Downtown Business <br /> Association explained they are trying to get all Redwood City schools to <br /> participate in the parade. Ms. Ball noted that any extra grant funds not used <br /> for this year's event can be returned to the Commission or be heid over for <br /> the foilowing years event. She stated that last year over 3,500 spectators <br /> attended the parade and program. The Tis the Season group is also planning <br /> to participate in the 4�' of July Parade to advertise the holiday event. <br /> -Vintage Music Theatre <br /> Dennis Leach explained Vintage Music is looking for a grant of$5,000 for two <br /> performances to be held at Carrington Hall or Canada College and the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center. <br /> Superintendent Centeno explained that Taft Healthy Start contacted staff last <br /> month about requesting a grant of $900.00 to fund their"Parent to Parent: <br /> Mano a Mano" event. As of last month, the Commission did not have <br /> su�cient funds to cover this request. Because Peninsula Center Stage has <br /> notified us about not being able to use the balance of their grant, funds are <br /> now available. An application was mailed to Healthy Start, completed by <br /> appl�cant, but was not received by staff. Superintendent Centeno asked the <br /> Com`mission if they wished to hear the presentation from Healthy Start and <br /> they agreed. <br /> Patricia Merlos-Lopez explained Taft Healthy Start received funding last year <br /> from the Commission for this same event. She stated the event is a multi- <br /> cultural festival and the grant will fund four different musical groups who will <br /> perform at the festival. The event will be held on Sunday, June 11 from <br /> i1:00am-S:OOpm and the Commissioners are invited to attend. <br /> The decisions on the grant applications were deferred until later in the <br /> meeting. The meeting was adjourned for a short break at 8:lOpm and was <br /> reconvened at 8:20pm. <br /> ITEM 2 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Budget, Art Fund Establishment, Council Meeting Date 6/26/�0 <br /> Superintendent Centeno reviewed the Commission's FY 99-00 budget sheet <br /> and explained that staff just finalized the bands for the summer concert <br /> series and we do not have the total costs at this time. The Commissioners <br /> reviewed the budget sheet and Commissioner Britschgi asked to increase the <br />
