Pizza will be served at 5:30pm
and the meeting will begin at 6:OOpm.
Commissioner pouglas suggested that the Commission consider taking over
the "Jazz in the Plaza" concert series and Chairperson Britschgi asked him to
research this suggestion and to present the results at the November 1
meeting. Commissioner pouglas stated he spoke to John Anagnostou about
having the Fox Theatre available to our small grant applicants when the
facility was not in use.
Director Centeno spoke about the results of two summer concert surveys the
department coordinated. The first survey was sent out to neighbors within a
two block radius of Stafford Park. The second survey was given to attendees
of the last two summer concerts.
Director Centeno stated the first survey was sent out to approximately 70
homes and 40 responses were received. Two-thirds of the respondents liked
the concerts and several comments were received were about issues that can
be corrected. Concerns such as sound level of the bands, improper vehicle
- parking, and garbage can be mitigated.
Director Centeno stated that the second survey results provided important
information about band selection, starting the program earlier in the season
and ending earlier due to it getting dark at 8:OOpm, and having concerts
every week. It was suggested that the Concert Sub-Committee (Kushin, Del
Carlo, Ball) meet and bring back recommendations at the December
Commission meeting.
-Public Art
Commissioner pouglas volunteered to maintain the Public Art Inventory
Binder. The Commissioners discussed the hanging of the Ledesma art work
and the operation of the gallery at City Hall. The gallery lighting is now in
place and the Sequoia Art Group has taken over responsibility from the Art
Center for hanging art in the gallery. The Commissioners agreed that the
four newly acquired Ledesma paintings needed to be re-framed and re-
matted. Seven Ledesma art pieces are hanging in various locations within
City Hall. The Commissioners discussed moving all the Ledesma art pieces to
the City Hall gallery and working with Sequoia Art Group who currently
maintain the area.
