MiRUtes of fhe Civic Cultural Commission Page 3 <br /> Thursday,July 5,2001 <br /> discussed whether the writing contest constituted art and suggested that the <br /> Library Board, Friends of the Library or the Redwood City Library Foundation <br /> might be better sponsors for the event. The Director agreed to take this <br /> information back to the group. <br /> ITEM 3 —SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> • Budget <br /> o Transfer of funds of remaining funds to CIP effective 6/30/01 <br /> • Director Centeno reported that funds were not transferred as <br /> the Commission balance at the end of the year was $67.01. <br /> At the last meeting the Commission was informed that we <br /> expected the retum of a small grant of$999. In actual fact <br /> only a portion of these funds were retumed. In addition, the <br /> cost of our concert provided to the Port was slightly higher <br /> than previously expected. <br /> o Letter to Council conceming budget increase and need for strategic <br /> plan, Chairperson Britschgi and Vice-Chairperson Dale <br /> • Chairperson Britschgi spoke regarding the letter she and <br /> Vice-Chairperson Dale had developed which was presented <br /> to Council on 6/25/01. Vice-Chairperson Dale spoke about <br /> his appearance before Council and that no action was taken <br /> that evening. Commissioners discussed how a strategic <br /> plan could be developed including: a review of the existing <br /> cultural element, a review of the Art Council website etc. <br /> M/S Dale— Douglas to speak at the July 9, 2001 Council <br /> meeting about the need for an additional $20,000 in funding <br /> for this year and the Commission's willingness to pursue a <br /> strategic plan effort. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> • Children and Schools — No report <br /> • Cultural Commission Sponsored Events <br /> o Summer Concert Series <br /> Chairperson Britschgi reported that the first concert in the series <br /> was cancelled due to fear of bad weather. The Commission <br /> discussed various dates for a makeup concert. M/S Douglas — <br /> Soultanian to suggest either Sunday, September 9, 2001, in the <br /> aftemoon or Wednesday, September 12, in the evening as <br /> altemative dates. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> o `Tis the Season <br /> Commissioner pouglas reported on his attendance at the last `Tis <br /> the Season meeting. Bob Slusser agreed to serve as Chairperson <br /> and committees were established. The event is clearly under the <br />
