Coun-
cilman Granger moved that the request should be granted, seconded by Councilman
Holmquist. Under the question Councilman Britschgi said he was not sure this could
be done as City Engineer Jain had stated this had been put in by an ordinance. City
Attorney Currie advised that the entire system of bus stops were established by
ordinance and that changes could be made if the City Council desired, and a resolution
drafted to eliminate the bus stop. Councilman Granger revised his motion to read
that proper authorities bring in such a resolution for the next meeting. Councilman
... Britschgi asked if this would be one less bus stop or if there would be another bus
stop in front of a store. Councilman Granger stated this was right in one way and
politically wrong in another. It was thought that•inasmuch as the bus stop was not
used it could be moved down one block and move the next one down to the next corner,
then shift the one in front of Penny's down into the next block where they are going
to build the large building. City Attorney Currie stated that all bus stop changes
could be done in one comprehensive resolution. The question at present was to
eiliminate the one bus stop. Councilman Britschgi was in favor of waiting until
the next building was completed, the required bus stops to be established at that
time, and stated that he would vote 'Non on referring this to the Traffic and
Safety Commission at this time. Councilman Granger was of the opinion if time if
time warranted another bus stop at a later date it would be well to consider it at
that time, that if this one was not in use it could be eliminated now. Councilman
Holmquist expressed confidence in men on Traffic and Safety Commission and was in
favor of their recommendation. Motion carried on roll call vote. Councilman
Britschgi voted No. Councilman Swift noted absent.
LETTER FROM THE SEQUOIA CHAPTER OF AMERICAN RED CROSS, SIGNED BY MR. W. PAUL WHALEY,
chairman of disaster service, addressed to City Manager Rolison, referred to the
City Manager's conversation with Mr. Earl Peckham, chairman of Shelter Committee,
and requested the Council's approval of using the new recreation building at
Community Center as a temporary shelter in the event o)i a disaster in this area.
Councilman Morgan moved that the request should be granted, seconded by Councilman
Britschgi wondered if this should not be referred to the Park and Recreation Com-
mission as a matter of consideration just as something concerning the Planning
Commission would be referred to them first for their approval.. Mayor Werd.er stated
that in any event of disaster the Recreation Commission would be more than willing
for the Red Cross to take over. Councilman Morgan stated that in case of disaster
the Council takes charge of all public buildings immediately, and revised his motion
. , to the effect that the letter from Mr. Whaley should be referred to the Recreation
Commission stating approval of such request by the Council and asking for their
reply or report to be available for the next Council meeting, seconded by Councilman
Granger, and carried.
MR GENE HOFF14AN WAS NAMED FOR RE -APPOINTMENT TO PERSONNEL BOARD on May 17th, which ap»oint-
went was confirmed on June 7th, and. at this date (June 21st,) he received the oath
of office administered by City Clerk Ralph S.
