<br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
<br />July 6th, 1948, 8:00 P.M.
<br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, H. E. Holmquist,
<br />Albert H. Morgan, Jr., Arthur V. Swift, Robert V. Spillers, Mayor tem. M. Werder, and
<br />City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. Also present were: City Manager E. A. Rolison, City
<br />Attorney C. B. Currie, Chief of Police C. L. Collins, City Engineer Glenn Jain,
<br />Fire Chief J. L. Lodi, Assistant Engineer H. L. Hinter, Buildign Inspector L. M.

<br />Duncan, Administrative Assists.nt Richard D. Miller, Assessor -Auditor J. J. Brophy,
<br />and City Collector Paul E. Perrin. Councilman Britschgi noted absent.
<br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of June 21st and adjourned meeting
<br />of June 30th were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by

<br />Councilman Swift, and carried.
<br />CHECK No. 2614 issued by the City of Redwood City for $10.30 to 011a Tienda, Good House-
<br />keeping Store, 405 El Camino Real on May 3, 1943 was carried as outstanding until
<br />June 30, 1945 and charged off into Surplus Account. The original check was presented
<br />by Mr. Sam Cheatham on July 1, 1948 for payment. Councilman Granger moved if this
<br />was in order that a new check be drawn to replace the one issued in 1943, seconded
<br />by Councilman Morgan, and carried.
<br />LETTER FROM L. C. SMITH REQUESTED Aid EXTENTION OF SIX MONTHS TIME ON ACCOUNT OF DELAY,
<br />time commencing from July 1, 1948 to complete work on installation of street improve-
<br />ments, Redwood Terrace No. 1 - RESOLUTION OF INTENTION 1946-5. City Manager Rolison
<br />added that he had discussed this with the City Engineer who thought it advisable to
<br />grant three months extention, that they should be able to get the 11rork done in that
<br />time. Councilman Holmquist moved that three months extention be granted to complete
<br />this project, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried.
<br />MATTH04 POLLARD, 340 HF14LOCK AVENUE, PRESENTED REQUEST IN A LETTER TO PICK UP SCRAP IRON
<br />in the City of Redwood City. Discussion revealed that scrap iron would be taken to
<br />San Francisco the day it would be picked up, it would not be stored in Redwood City.
<br />A restricted license vould be issued, there would be no house to house soliciting,
<br />but scrap would be picked up from shops and yards. City Collector Perrin stated it
<br />had been reported to him that several were operating without license and there were
<br />a number of licensed dealers. He was checking up on those without licenses. Coun-
<br />cilman Granger moved application be carried on agenda. until further report on this
<br />subject, seconded by Councilman Ifiorgan, and carried.
<br />GREENE BROS., submitted application for acceptance of all new Street improvements in
<br />small subdivision known as Carroll Park, Valota Road. City Engineer Jain thought
<br />there were four or five minor items to be corrected, that the Council need take
<br />no action at this time. Councilman Granger moved that this be referred to the
<br />Engineering Department, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried.
<br />A LETTER FRO{ I -JR. AND MRS. R. D. FREDINE, 248 Park Street, Reduood City, protested
<br />keeping of chickens in any built up area in the City. Councilman Morgan reported
<br />Mai
<br />other complaints from an R-2 District in the City and thought this problem should
<br />be studied. Councilman Morgan moved that Mayor Werder appoint a committee for
<br />investigation and to decide vihether or not the ordinance on this should be clari-
<br />fied, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. Councilmen Morgan, Spillers
<br />and carried. Councilmen morgan, Spillers and Swift were appointed as the com-
<br />mittee, Councilman Morgan to act as Chairman.
