A
464 objected to subjection to this sort of criticism for several meetings past and
again at this time, stating that Ordinance No. 516 and Charter adequately provided
for the procedure which the Council followed in expenditure and appropriation of
monies. It was brought out by Councilman Granger that the City Treasurer and City
Auditor were bonded employees of the City and to questions asked of them replied
that their duties were carried on in accordance with the Charter. Councilman
Morgan thought City's affairs In regard to monies expended were handled in correct
way by City Attorney Currie and that the Council should rely on his Judgment.
14ayor Werder stated the matter would be dropped.
PETE SORENSK4 HAD PREVIOUSLY WISHED To APPEA11 ON SOME MATTER, but at this time stated he
would write a letter rather than take up the time of the Council, as they had
already been subjected to needless loss of time as well as embarrassment by the
foregoing matter.
ADOPTION OF AN114AL SHELTER ORDINANCE. Councilman Granger moved that an affidavit of
publication be filed, seconded by Councilman Morgan, end carried. City Attorney
Currie stated that the ordinance was ready and provided for increase In pound fees.
Councilman Morgan moved adoption of the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Spillers,
and carried on toll call. Councilman BritschgI noted absent.
ABATEMENT OF 832 and 831 Jefferson Avenue, Old Poole property, and Vain Street Lots.
Ar. Lud Werder appeared, representing the owners, and asked for a delay of abatement,
there being no objection to the abatement of these buildings, but the owners would
like to give the buildings on Jefferson to the Boy Scouts if they could be moved to
another lot with the approval of the Building Inspector, and they would like to
have more time for the tenants to find new quarters. Sixty days was requested.
Councilman Morgan moved that the additional sixty days be granted, and that the
matter be duly and regularly continued until the first meeting in September, seconded
by Councilman Holmquist, and carried.
ABATE-,.!E','T OF FABRO PROPERTY; ARGUELLO STREET. It was decided to order building razed
within thirty dp,-ys, failure on the part of the owner to do so would necessitate the
City razing the building, any expense to become a lien on the property. Councilman
Holmquist moved that the proceedings be started, seconded by Councilman Granger.
City Attorney Currie took sworn testimony of Building Inspector Duncan. On oath
Building Inspector Duncan testified as follows:
That: He was the Building Inspector of Redwood. City.
He had examined the premises at 524 - 526 Arguello Street.
He had found the house there had no foundation.
The underpinning was leaning.
Porch posts were out of plumb.
No rail on porch.
Building was one foot from the property line.
Plumbing was In poor condition.
Sewage underneath the house, and unsanitary condition underneath.
Rear porch unsafe.
Gas vents Illegal.
Wiring in unsafe condition.
In his opinion the only way to take care of the situation would be
to raze the building and he recommended the same to the City Council.
RESOLUTION No- 591. To abate the nuisance at 524 - 526 Arguello Street within thirty
days if not razed, Building Inspector to have the building torn down, sell any
salvage, any balance still due to become a lien upon the property. Councilman
Granger offered resolution and moved adoption to help Mr. Fabro, the owner, abate
the nuisance, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried on roll call. Coun-
cilman Britschgi noted absent.
