481 <br />Spillers moved that recommendation of City Manager be approved, seconded by Councilman Swift. <br />Money for this project was to come out of Recreation Bond Funds, although not specifically <br />allocated for sidewalks, there was sufficient money for the building to cover this. Motion <br />carried. <br />LETTER FROM PG&E IN RE TO MANHOLE IN SIDE14ALK AREA IN FRONrOF LOT �0, BLOCK 11, DILLERS ADDITION TO <br />1. Extend the vent from the present pit along the curb line to a riser to be <br />located on the property line between Lots 9 and 10. <br />2. Install a round cast—iron manhole cover in place of the present sidewalk doors. <br />3. The Company will agree with the City, in writing, that if Lot 10 is improved <br />and the pit interferes with the use thereof, the Company will relocate the pit <br />�., under the sidewalk at any point between Lots 8 and 12 inclusive, which may be <br />designated by the City Engineer. <br />It was further stated in the letter by Mr. T.W. Snell, Manager, San Jose Division th t Mr. Riesen, <br />Division Gas Superintendent, would be glad to discuss the technical details of the problem with <br />the City Engineer or any other representative if it was so desired. City Manager stated that <br />original plan shows manhole in driveway. City Attorney believed that the City would have right <br />to demand.that it be moved to different location. Councilman Holmquist moved that a copy of the <br />letter be sent to the owner, that the matter be held in abeyance until such time as the property <br />is to be improved or sold in which case the PG&E will be called upon to remove the pit to another <br />location, seconded by Councilman Swift, and carried. <br />LETTER F 1.OM JACK POOLE, CHAIRMAN, PARK AND RECREATION CO`V.ISSION RECOMMENDED THAT THE COUNCIL APPOINT <br />SOME RECOGNIZED ENGINEER TO DRAW PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR A SVIWING POOL. The Commission <br />recommended that the firm of John Kline and Company, designers o f the present recreation building <br />do this job as they were specialists in the designing of swimming pools, and also recommended that <br />the Council instruct the City Attorney to investigate the possibility of using funds set aside <br />for the War Memorial Building for a Memorial Swimming Pool. Councilman Granger objected to money <br />being set aside for 74ar Memorial Building being used for swimming pool. Mr. Poole stated that <br />the intention was to borrow the money and pay it back as the pool would amortize itself in from <br />ten to fifteen years. Mr. Poole and Mr. Morton both wished to get the project started as soon as <br />possible. Councilman Morgan moved that the City Attorney make investigation if money could be <br />used and for that purpose, seconded by Councilman Swift. Motion carried. Councilman Morgan moed <br />that the Council should take it upon themselves to find out whether or not it would be possible to <br />use funds for other purposes than that for which they were set up and that the City Attorney check <br />into this and report bank at next meeting, seconded by Councilman Granger, and carried. Councilman <br />IF-- Morgan further requested and moved that investigation be made of bond funds earmarked for other <br />purposes, and if some of such funds could be added to the amount of monies already available. <br />Councilman Morgan moved that the whole subject be placed on the agenda and the City Attorney report <br />back, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />JOHNSON STREET PETITION. Mr. Don Russell, 237 Johnson Street, reported that Mr. Searcy would report later <br />as he was not present at the moment. <br />CHICKEN ORDINANCE COMMITTEE. Councilman Swift reported that due to vacations etc., nothing had been done <br />on this and wished it to be placed on agenda. <br />CHANGING OF CERTAIN STREET NAMES. Councilman Spillers reported there had been so many meetings that this <br />committee had not met. Councilman Holmquist moved that this be duly and regularly continued to the <br />meeting of August 16th, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. <br />RED!d00D CITY, <br />(Jefferson Avenue), owned <br />by Miss Annie Offermann.
